Take charge of your health by taking all of the necessary
steps that will give you more energy, make you more productive and, most of
all, make you feel good. While many people find themselves overweight and out
of shape, there are many things you can do to reverse a negative situation and
improve your over all health.
Keeping a Clean House
Many people wonder why they are always coughing and getting sick. The answer may be as simple as living in an environment that is full of germs and other contaminants that affect your respiratory system. You spend at least half your day enclosed in your house and have to breathe in the air that is often not very pure. People with COPD, asthma, emphysema or other respiratory ailments will likely suffer more than healthy people, but
Everyone can benefit from a good house cleaning.
Spring is in the air and now is a good time to do some spring cleaning. You might start by opening up your doors and windows and allowing some clean, fresh air to circulate throughout your house. One might be surprised by the number of people that keep themselves sealed in their homes all year round. The next step would be to get out the vacuum cleaner and vacuum all your rooms that have carpet. If you don’t have a carpet cleaner, rent one or hire a service to clean and shampoo your carpets. Next, mop all your hard surfaces and then attack the bathrooms. Use a disinfectant spray and make sure to do a thorough job around the toilet, sink and shower.
Take a look at your ceiling fans and make sure to remove all the dust that probably has accumulated on the blades. Check and clean any mold or mildew with a bleach and water mixture. Finally, consider hiring a professional to clean out your air ducts. I will not get in to the subject of bed bugs except to say if you have them, please do something to get rid of them.
Follow a Healthy Diet
Eat sensibly and you will almost automatically feel better. There are a thousand different diets out there and most of them do not work. Many people try the latest and greatest diets and lose some weight, but in a few months, they gain it right back. The secret to losing the excess pounds and maintaining a healthy weight is to change your behavior and not to simply decide to eat less.
If you have certain medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease, your diet can play a crucial role in maintaining your day to day health. Diabetics need to watch their sugar intake and avoid ingesting too many carbohydrates.
Those suffering from high blood pressure should avoid salt as much as possible. Salt is in most foods in our diets and you can’t avoid them totally. In fact, our bodies need a certain amount of salt to function properly. High salt foods like soups, pickles and processed meats along with snacks like pretzels and chips should be eaten in moderation or not eaten at all.
Fatty foods are the enemy of those with heart disease. Cholesterol and other fats can build up over time and clog your arteries. Concentrate on eating less meat and more fruits and vegetables.
Exercise Regularly
Whether you just like to walk, work in the yard or stroll around the mall, getting some good aerobic exercise will make your whole body feel better. You can also do some resistance exercises with weights or other equipment to help build up your muscle mass and tone your body.
Sleep and Relaxation
Our bodies need sleep to recuperate each day. Stress can have a very negative effect on your health. Make sure you get enough sleep and maybe practice some meditation techniques or take a yoga class to learn how to relax.
